2009 Year in Review

2009 was a great year for the Willard Parks and Recreation Department. We serviced thousands of participants throughout the entire year. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Board of Mayor and Alderman, the Willard Park Board, and the Community of Willard! All of this year's events would not have been possible without you and your support. We hope 2010 will be an even better year for the Willard Parks and Recreation Department. March Update

Over the past couple of weeks the Willard Parks Department has been hard at work...

Opening of the new Willard Aquatic Center
Opening of the new Highline Soccer Park
Renovation of the Willard baseball/softball complex,
Hiring of a new Recreation Specialist
We received a $5,000 Sponsorship check from Conco Quarries
We doubled our scholarship fund to $210
We hosted our first fundraiser for “Project Playground” (we raised close to $1000)
We are in the process of wrapping up our largest recreational and competitive basketball league ever
We are preparing to kick off our spring sports registrations that include soccer, flag football and volleyball.

In March we have some huge activities going on including

Two competitive basketball tournaments
St. Patrick’s Day Dance on March 13th
Willard Spring Clean Up on March 28th
In March we also have a local scout that will be constructing two new signs for Jackson St. Park.

Thank you to everyone who is registered to participate in a Willard Parks and Recreation program, sport or activity. We are experiencing a time of growth in participation and I want to thank all of our participants. I want to also thank all of our class instructors and volunteer coaches. Without your time and dedication our programs, sports and activities would not be possible. I would like to encourage our participants to be sure to thank their individual coach or instructor for their effort and time that they put in. Again thank you to everyone who is participating. If you are not currently participating in any of our programs or sports please let me encourage you to browse our website and find something that interests you. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact us at 417-742-2262.

Also I want to thank everyone who submitted an email to me in support of our Baseball Tomorrows Fund Grant Application. Please know that your email is going directly to the Grant Committee. Thank you!

Youth Flag Football

Let me take this opportunity to welcome you to our new website and to this forum for exchanging ideas on the future of our park system.

New Park Land!! Did you know that the City of Willard has new Park Land. This Park is currenlty in the planning stages of devlopment. If you have ideas for this new Park please call Kevin at 742-2262.

Veterans Memorial Garden:

The City of Willard Parks and Recreation Department is in the process of developing plans for a Veterans Memorial Garden to be located at Jackson St. Park. This Veterans Memorial Garden is still in the planning stages. Stay tuned for more information on this exciting project.

New Sponsors:

Willard Parks and Recreation wishes to thank its newest sponsors, Hood’s, Smart Start Day Care, Willard Tax Station, EZ Mini Storage and Century 21. These businesses have purchased signs in the gymnasium at the Recreation Center.

USA Football Grant:

Willard Parks and Recreation has been awarded a 2010 USA Football Equipment Grant! This grant brings new equipment to the Parks Department.

Coke Contract

Willard Parks and Recreation is entering into a new contract with Ozarks Coca-Cola. The contract includes 6 new scoreboards for the new Highline Soccer Park. The boards are worth over $25,000. Thank you Ozarks Coca-Cola!

Willard's 2nd Annual Triathlon

Thank you ot everyone who participated in the 2010 Willard Triathlon. The event was a huge success. Stay tuned for information regarding the 2011 Triathlon.
